Membership Terms & Conditions – Checkmat Jiu-Jitsu Waterford
These Terms & Conditions govern membership, participation, and use of the services and facilities provided by Checkmat Jiu-Jitsu Waterford. By signing up as a Member or enrolling your child/ward, you agree to comply with all academy policies, procedures, and rules outlined below. These Terms & Conditions are designed to ensure the safety, respect, and well-being of all members, visitors, and staff. A full copy of these Terms & Conditions is available to all Members upon request at the reception desk or by email. Checkmat Jiu-Jitsu Waterford management reserves the right to amend or update these Terms & Conditions at any time without prior notice. Continued membership or participation in any class, activity, or use of the facilities after such changes will constitute acceptance of the updated terms.
1. Assumption of Risk & Release of Liability
By joining or enrolling my child/ward at Checkmat Jiu-Jitsu Waterford, I understand that activities such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, Yoga, fitness training, and the use of gym equipment involve physical effort and carry risks of injury, illness, or, in rare cases, serious harm or death. I confirm that I / my child / my ward are fit to participate and accept full responsibility for any injury or health issue that may occur during training or while using the facilities. I agree to inform Checkmat Jiu-Jitsu Waterford of any health conditions or changes that could affect participation and acknowledge that it is my responsibility to maintain appropriate health insurance or cover any related medical costs. To the fullest extent permitted under Irish law, I release and hold harmless Checkmat Jiu-Jitsu Waterford, its instructors, staff, and representatives from any liability arising from participation in its activities or use of its facilities.
2. Membership Payment, Late Payment Fees, Cancelation and Freezing
1. Membership fees are billed monthly and must remain up to date for members to access gym facilities, participate in classes, and receive members-only benefits and offers; 2. All payments are non-refundable and non-transferable and missed classes do not extend or reduce fees; 3. Membership cancellations must be requested writen by email to info@checkmatwaterford.ie at least 15 days before the next billing date; 4. Overdue payments exceeding 5 business days will incur a €5 late fee and may result in suspension or cancellation of membership; 5. Membership may be frozen for injury only, for a maximum and maximum period of 1 month of membership.
3. Academy Rules & Etiquette:
1. All members must show respect to instructors, staff, training partners, visitors and the academy environment; 2. Be punctual and request permission from the instructor to join the class if arriving late; 3. Inform the instructor before leaving the mat; 4. Maintain good hygiene, wear a clean uniform, keep nails trimmed, remove all jewellery before training and always wear flip-flops when off the mat; 5. Be appropriately dressed and use the changing rooms when necessary; 6. No food, drinks, shoes or mobile phones are allowed on the mats; 7. Coaching others, disruptive behaviour or disrespect will not be tolerated; 8. Always train safely and respect your partner’s tap; 9. All members are required to check in at the front desk or via the designated system before the start of every class. Failure to check in may result in restricted access to training; 10. Failure to follow these rules may result in suspension or termination of membership.
4. Uniform Policies
All members must wear a clean and proper Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu uniform to every class. Dirty or foul-smelling uniforms will not be tolerated. A white gi with a rashguard underneath is mandatory for Gi classes and a clean No-Gi uniform is required for No-Gi classes. Only Checkmat-affiliated uniforms and patches are permitted (uniforms from other teams or associations are not allowed). Failure to follow the uniform policy may result in being refused participation in class.
5. Hygiene, Safety & Uniform Policies
Due to the close-contact nature of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, maintaining high hygiene standards is mandatory for all members and visitors. Everyone must follow the Academy’s hygiene, safety and uniform policies at all times. Failure to comply may result in being refused participation in classes, training sessions, or events.
6. Children & Minors
All members under 18 must have parental or guardian consent to join. Children must be collected from inside the reception area and may not leave the premises unaccompanied. Parents are not permitted in the training area during kids’ classes and must not coach or instruct their children.
7. Use of Images
By signing up for membership and participating in classes, programs or events, you grant Checkmat Jiu-Jitsu Waterford and its Checkmat BJJ Team affiliates permission to use photos and videos of you and/or your child/ward taken during training, competitions, tournaments or events for marketing and promotional purposes, including publication on social media, websites and other digital platforms.
8. Use of Gym Equipment
All members use gym and strength training equipment at their own risk. Equipment must be used properly and safely, and assistance should be requested if unsure how to operate any machine. Checkmat Jiu-Jitsu Waterford does not provide specialized gym instructors or personal trainers, and it is the member’s responsibility to hire a qualified professional separately if guidance is needed. Members must keep all equipment clean and properly organized after use. Failure to comply with these rules may result in the loss of access to the gym equipment. Checkmat Jiu-Jitsu Waterford is not liable for injuries or damages resulting from the use of gym equipment.
9. CCTV Surveillance
CCTV cameras are in operation throughout Checkmat Jiu-Jitsu Waterford for safety, security, and facility management purposes. All members, visitors, and staff acknowledge that video monitoring is active while on the premises. Footage is stored securely and may only be accessed by authorized personnel or shared with law enforcement when required by law.
10. Hight to Refuse Access
Management reserves the right to deny access the academy’s facilities, or remove from the premises, any person whose behaviour is unsafe, disrespectful, disruptive or in violation of academy rules, policies or safety standards.
11. Code of Conduct & Membership Termination
Membership may be terminated at the discretion of management for violating Academy rules or for behavior considered harmful to the welfare, order or reputation of Checkmat Jiu-Jitsu Waterford and its Members. All Members are expected to treat staff and fellow members with respect at all times. Abusive, threatening or violent conduct will not be tolerated. Any individual exhibiting such behaviour will be asked to leave the premises immediately. In cases involving threats or violence, staff are instructed to contact local authorities.
12. Changes to Terms
Terms and fees are subject to change with prior notice.
